Younger’s Brewery (William Younger & Company), an Edinburgh brewery, developed from its modest beginnings in 1749 to become one of the major businesses in the city, servicing both domestic and international markets.
Younger’s and McEwan’s combined in 1931 to create Scottish Brewers, which in 1960 amalgamated with Newcastle Breweries to create Scottish & Newcastle. The combine had the greatest single employment in the city by the late 1960s.
Heineken acquired the business’s UK operations in 2008. The Wells & Young’s Brewery in Bedford announced in October 2011 that it had acquired the Younger’s and McEwan’s brands from Heineken UK.
